Eudora fortan kostenlos und quelloffen

Und der nächste Email-Client wird in kommerzieller Hinsicht aufgegeben... Nach Mulberry ist nun auch Eudora kostenlos. Offensichtlich kann man gegen die Betriebssystem-Beigaben und Thunderbird kaum noch bestehen.
Immerhin geht Qualcomm (anders als der Mulberry-Eigner (der aber die Entwicklung scheinbarjetzt doch noch fortführt...)) den quelloffenen Weg und dürfte damit eine Fortentwicklung sichern. Das wird aber erst 2007 geschehen. Bis dahin kann man noch für 20$ kaufen und bekommt dann auch noch sechs Monate Support. Naja! Drei Fragen darf man stellen, wie diverse Brückenwächter.

Naja. hier nutzt ja immerhin (zumindest) Warlord Eudora. Vielleicht wird mit der Zeit aus dem Code auch ein Programm, das mehr Nutzer findet als jetzt.

Eudora war mein erster Mail-Client - leider ist er mir in den letzten Jahren aus irrationalen Gründen immer unsympathischer geworden. Ich habe ihn immer wieder getestet, aber nie wieder wirklich verwendet - auch wenn er ziemlich gut sein soll…

Was ich nicht so toll finde, ist, das die lange angekündigte Cocoa-Version wohl nun doch nicht mehr das Licht der Welt erblickt. Warten wir mal ab, ich hoffe das Ergebnisse aus der bisher geleisteten Entwicklungsarbeit mit einfliessen, zumal die Entwickler selber ja "an Bord" bleiben.

Nein, das ist mehr der Wunsch eine Alternative in Cooca  ähnlich wie bei  Camino zu Firefox zu haben. Benutzen tue ich derzeit ohnedies Mail. Aber so wie ich Camino statt Safari benutze, hätte ich gerne auch eine Ausweichmöglichkeit. Das mit der "Durchsuchungsgeschwindigkeit" hatte ich noch gar nicht auf dem Radar. Mein Mailaufkommen ist sehr gering. Mit einer Ausnahme: Ich habe aus der Teilnahme an einem "Mailforum" (Freewaytalk) einen Berg Informationen und ich würde wegen der Suchfunktion wieder gerne auf Mailbenachrichtigung umstellen (momentan besuche ich bei Freeway das Forum). Eine schnellere Suchmöglichkeit wäre schon gut (OS X 10.3.9). Von daher werde ich Eudora auf den Merkzettel schreiben.

Hehe, der gute, alte Tom. Hatte schon immer erhöhten Datendurchsatz in seinem Postfach. Nach seiner Aussage kommt Eudora damit bestens zurecht. Ich persönlich habe auch schon mit Eudora gespielt, aber ich habe nicht das Durchhaltevermögen...

Blickt bei deren Versions- und Fortschrittsindikatoren irgend jemand durch? Ich hoffe doch schwer, dass das, was da jetzt veröffentlich worden ist, dem "Release 0.1" auf deren Roadmap entspricht und nicht etwa diesen Anspruch haben soll: We expect this release to be comfortable for the vast majority of Eudora users.

Was da veröffentlich worden ist, hat nicht ansatzweise etwas mit Eudora zu tun (ausser dem identischen Icon). Das ist yet another Outlook...     :'(

Oh, wie hat dieser User auf Versiontracker doch Recht, von A bis Z:

Few love Eudora more than me. While it is old and creaky in places, sports an outdated UI ,and lacks the modernity of Mac OS X, it is fast, stable, incredibly simple, and does the job with aplomb (as long as you don't need HTML email).

To call version 8 beta an improvement or even give it the name EUDORA is not only a travesty, but insulting. Is this a marketing joke, do the "developers" think we are that stupid? All they did was take the Penelope plug-in, which has been stuck in the .1 alpha stage for the better part of a year, and attach it to a current version of Thunderbird. The last time I checked, .1 alpha meant early testing and not very feature full or stable. To translate that, to calling the product a full version change (ala 8.0.0) is a farce at least and dishonest at worst. "Classic" Eudora and this imposter have very little in common. If I wanted to use Thunderbird, I would, but I use Eudora for the fact that it is Eudora.

It would have been far better to release the product when it was actually somewhat finished. I appreciate that the developers are trying to keep an old dinosaur from dying and bring it back to relevance, but this is worse that just letting it go to final sleep in the software graveyard. I will stick with version 6.2.4, and while I will keep track of the project, and pray for something better, I am not counting on it. At this point the credibility of the project is in tatters. They are going to have to do one heck of a job to restore my faith.

We need a new Eudora that keeps the beautiful simplicity, speed, power, and incredible stability of the classic Eudora while adding a modern interface, good html email support (blech!), much better (modern) SMTP support, and a host of other features that never happened while others were innovating. In more and more cases, I use Apple Mail with customers, and I try to eliminate that hellacious Entourage (though its constant failures sure keep me busy) .Though, those still happy using Eudora, I encourage to continue forward. If it works why bother changing. How many PowerPC applications are so good that they still work great on Intel processors? Not many, and classic Eudora is one of them. Until I find something better, I will stay with classic Eudora, and this new 8.0.0 sham is not only NOT better, it is laughable. Try again.

Ich sehe schon eine Outlook-/Entourage-/Mail.app-isierung von Eudora kommen. 

Aber man soll seinen Optimismus ja nie aufgeben. Aber die Realität belehrt einen in der Tat häufig eines Besseren.
